Requires Java to play

Excitebike NES Cartridge Cover The player controls the position of the red motorcycle with the Y-axis of the directional pad, and controls acceleration with the A and B buttons. Using B causes improved acceleration, but causes the motorcycle’s temperature to increase as shown on a bar at the bottom of the screen. If the temperature exceeds safe limits (the bar becomes full), the player will be immobilized for several seconds while the bike cools down. If the bike goes over an arrow, it is automatically cooled down.

Whether the player chooses to race solo or against computer-assisted riders, he/she races against a certain time limit. The goal is to qualify for the Excitebike (the championship) race by coming in at third place or above in the challenge race (preliminary race). The times to beat are located on the stadium walls (for first place) and in the lower left corner (for third place). In any race, the best time is 8 seconds ahead of third place. When the player places first, then they get a message: “It’s a new record!” Additional points are earned by beating the previously-set record time.

The player controls the position of the red motorcycle with the Y-axis of the directional pad, and controls acceleration with the A and B buttons. Using B causes greater acceleration, but also increases the motorcycle’s temperature shown as a bar at the bottom of the screen. If the temperature exceeds safe limits (the bar becomes full), the player will be immobilized for several seconds while the bike cools down. Driving over an arrow will immediately reduce the bike’s temperature.

The pitch of the motorcycle can be modified with the X-axis of the directional pad, left raises the front, while right lowers the front. In the air, this rotates the bike, but can also be used to create wheelies on the ground. The up and down arrows on turn the hand bar left and right, respectively when the bike is on the ground.

At the start of the game, the player can choose one of five tracks he/she wants to race in.

Have you ever wounded what it would be like to have 3D glasses well i was browsing threw steam and BAM! some random comments were down the bottom of something so i started to read them and this was there. This video will show you all about the Third Dimension!!!. God if you don’t find this funny your not a true Geek :P
<blockquote>ITS LIKE I CAN? TOUCH YOU</blockquote>

So I love a good Engrish article as much as the next geek. Wich is why I’m laying out some great Engrish images I came across recently. Of course you’ll have to view the entire post to see them.

Engrish refers to unusual English originating in Japan, and often by extension other East Asian countries. The term itself arises from the ethnic stereotype that Japanese people often confuse the English phonemes “r” and “l”, since the Japanese language has one alveolar consonant in place of both. The word is not used in Japan, as the actual Japanese word for the English language is eigo (wikt:??).
While the term may refer to spoken English, it is more often used to describe written English. Engrish can be found in many places, including signs, menus, and advertisements. Terms such as Japlish or Janglish for Japan, Konglish for Korea, Singlish for Singapore, and Chinglish for China are sometimes used as well.

Its been a long time – GLaDOS

Portal was one of the best puzzle games in 2009. Possibly the perfect mix of game for the acerage geek. Puzzle action and humour, add a dash of geek referance and geek nostalgia and there you have it. It looks like the developers are taking the sequel to a whole new level.

Just have a look you will be amazed on how valve have put this teaser together.

Be afraid of the terrestrial Shrub. Imagine you fleeing from a monty python inspired demolitions madman. Or we might be talking neighborhood espionage. No matter your reason for needing to be mobile and inconspicuous this porta shrub is for you. Jason Shull’s inspired vehicle is nothing short of bizarre, or perhaps genius depending on your view.

Selling a computer can be a big deal. Sales pitches can come hard to people, especially when there is emotional attachment to the computer in question. Somehow however I don’t think the seller of this computer had any concerns about his conscience.

Interesting PC Sales AddI think what amazes me the most about this is the fact so many address tags are taken.

Just for fun, everyone needs a ROFLCOPTER now and again.

Windows Crash Settings

Default settings aren't optimal

Recent black ops personal working undercover has uncovered Apple Employee’s aided by Linux Insurgents have infiltrated Microsoft’s core Windows Coding team. Anyone suffering from random crashes long restarts and resetting default attributes may need to find the hidden settings for windows crash.

Of particular note are the ‘crash computer after x’ fields. Set to ensure maximum data loss between office auto saves I would advise disabling this feature completely. Utilising the crash computer after x hours however may be an excellent security measure. Preventing thieves from stealing you computer simply because it’s useless and disheartening cyber criminals by crashing before they can steal any useful information.

Of course its not all bad. The fuzzy logic processing that works out when your computer is at it’s least likely to crash moment is a feat of genius. Using the omgbbqsauce engine the windows insta-crash will detect you facial movements via subtle electro magnetic changes in the air. Computers are amazing things. From these pulses they can detect when you are at your most a; in able to deal with a catastrophic crash and b; least aware of anything other than you current focus. Boom, the most effective crash moment is chosen, followed by a complex history check of your usage. Extrapolating data from your trends and habits your computer can then go on to ensure your most precious data and information will be corrupted and thus rendered useless if you skip the reboot file check.

Potato’s aren’t that fast, compared to lets say anything that isn’t inanimate.
I’m a fan of funny tv ads, stupid tv add’s, crazy tv add’s and tv add’s that go nowhere take a left at Broome then crash into a light post just south of Derrin where they are absorbed into some kind of Stephen King horror story. I figure if you want me to buy something the least you can do is entertain me.
This isn’t very entertaining. I guess that makes it a good thing that Opera is free.

Steve Jobs is trying to pitch his i-Pad to the Star Wars Rebels. Lets face it, not an easy task. He’s talking the i-Pad that costs more than its competition, looks like a childs cheap toy (actually it’s quite well-built and looks classy) has a prissy apple for a logo and can’t even run flash.  Actually that’s not correct, it can run flash it just doesnt want to… WTF? Oh noez, no flash. So while Luke Skywaker reminds us all it can browse the web, in fact it is the best browsing experience you’ve ever had. Way better than my laptop, way better than my smartphone.

Well not actually better than my smartphone at lets say, making phone calls or browsing the web with one hand while sipping my geek haven cafe grande early in the morning or playing flash games from newgrounds or albino black sheep. It’s also totally useless if say I wanted to crank out a quick game of Modern Warfare 2 while chilling in a Wi FI enabled restaurant waiting for a business partner.

Just for the record what is it with your mobile devices being so god damned big you need a man bag. Chewbacca doesn’t have a man bag, Han Solo doesn’t have a man Bag. Luke Sky Walker has a man bag but even he doesn’t admit to it openly.

Pushing music to the speed of geek, ArcAttack is using Tesla Coils to produce the Doctor Who Theme. If that’s not a geek wet dream I don’t know what is. Of course a few traditional instruments are needed, and obviously a guy dressed in a faraday suit for all those moments of visual geekotica.
During the Makers Fair in San Mateo, California, ArcAttack played the popular Doctor Who theme staring two singing tesla coils. In addition to there already considerably geeky setup a man wearing a Faraday Suit stood between the two coils and manipulated the electrical arcs. This is something worth seeing, I highly recomend the youtube clip embed. Read the rest of this entry »

Note, the games will be “free as in ‘free speech’, not as in ‘free beer’”: see each license for the full, finalized details as they come out very hopefully this week — stay tuned. It is the underlying code that will be made available to everyone.

Please support this project. The games are free now (Or about to be free) however shouldn’t we be contributing. The answer is YES we should be contributing to such a generous offer from the developers. There generous offer will hopefulyl start a trend, a trend that I can only hope goes beyond the initial outlay. Buy one for yourself, one for your friends. Sheesh, a late mothers day present. Just get off the couch and do it.

It’s new news. I know it’s been a while. I’ve been working on a few projects but here I am back at Geek-Haven where it all began. I’ve recently obtained an Engine for on-line RPG’s (2d) with a direct development line to 3d. It’s beginning again. What does this mean for Geek-Haven? firstly it means a new design. There is a lot of work coming to Geek-Haven, some of it obvious some less so. However this attention should build some community. If there was ever a time to get involved now would be it.

Of course development time for the game is variable. Quantity vs Quality and all that. So stay tuned for updates on what could be the future direction for geek-haven.

This amused me, not as much as getting smashed with friends and streaming ourselves singing bohemian rhapsody from our share house kitchen . But we can’t have it all can we.

Bohemian Rhapsody spoof of Battlestar Galactica starring Gandalf the White and Xena Warrior Princess, kinda.

I have had my quad core for about 2 years now and it has always seemed to run hot, (like if i leave my computer on and not the heater it would heat the room up by itself quite nicely). This is why I finally decided to do some thing about it, especially with the weather getting hotter, and so too my room. I looked at forums relating to this problem and eventually went with a cooler a friend recommended, the Thermalright IFX-14. He has one in his dual core machine and said it would perform well.

I ordered the monster and within a few weeks it arrived (Why is there always [ED]. a delay in stock) when i pulled it out of the box i was in amazed at the size of the cooler, at 146mm in length, 124mm in width, 161mm in height and 790g in weight it is huge. The cooler came with a back plate to support it on the motherboard, thermal paste, 2 fan brackets and all brackets to suit Intel LGA775,  AMD AM2 and socket 939. Installation was easy it required taking out the motherboard, removing the old cooler and thermal paste, reapplying thermal paste,  mounting the cooler using the brackets and screws provided and installing your 2 fans of choice. (For mine I choose 2 120mm Antec 3 speed fans). Read the rest of this entry »

Scroll to the bottom for a comprehensive list of games released in the 09 – 10 period. + A quick note. It horrifies me to admit that my most popular article (this one) is most likely my worst. Don’t forget I’m giving away a copy of Blood Bowl (via steam) for anyone that can offer a decent header for geek-haven. Also i’m looking for people interested in the new online RPG geek-haven is developing.

It’s been an interesting year for me, and I can only guess the same goes for most of you.

Tragedy and Joy, political intrigue the Global Financial Crisis, the Election of America’s first African American President (Yes I know he’s not 100% African American but the fact that is an issue speaks volumes about the American populace and the important step this was for America as a  whole.)

The sad and truly unwholesome death of ‘the King of Pop’ Michael Jackson (When i say unwholesome I wish to refer to the vultures and ass clowns whom simply would not let the poor man rest in piece. Simply put have some respect for the dead you ass clowns.)

On 23 November 2009, the first proton–proton collisions were recorded, at the injection energy of 450 GeV per particle.

Mechwarrior Living Legends

Well the past few days I have been trying to get the beta version of the mod working and finally some success. The mod offers a MechWarrior game utilising the crysis engine which adds up for a great game. Some minor issues I had where not having some of the mod files in the right areas as some of the installation guides were not the most comprehensive ones I have seen, still with some thinking and many reinstalls of crysis later I finally got it up and it does not disappoint.
